15 Mushrooms Crafted With Paper By Ann Wood

Published 2 days ago

As unbelievable as it appears, these intricately detailed mushrooms are crafted solely from paper. The talented Ann Woods has been working on her paper art for over 10 years. Though her artistic journey began with paper feathers and butterflies, she has since mastered food, flowers and finally paper mushrooms. The last of which has been her latest attempt at experimenting with new techniques, an attempt that’s been going on for the last three years.

Speaking to DeMilked about her creations, Wood said, “I’ve made all types of things out of paper….feathers, flowers, branches, bulbs, food and leaves. Mushrooms are so ephemeral and the idea of capturing their beauty and paper sparked my interest. I love the variety of textures and colours in live mushrooms. I study photographs and try to understand their intricate details and particularly like making the gills on the underside of the mushroom. I think they are the part that is most like a flower.”

Though at first glance the myriad of mushrooms may look real, upon further scrutiny, you can see the legnths the artist has gone to in order to achieve the level needed to craft these sculptures. In a statement, Wood mentioned, “ I use many types of paper, from tissue thin paper to card stock. One mushroom may involve five different papers that are all white. Each piece is painted to match the different layers of color in the live mushroom.”

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
