Swan Lake On Asphalt: This Instagram Account Brings Ballet Dancers To Urban Areas
You can dance in the streets, but not as gracefully as these ballet dancers. Lured to the streets by the photographer Omar Z. Robles, they flit around crumbling brickwork strewn and garish graffiti. Following the Instagram hashtag #ozr_dance, they pose (and jump, and pirouette) in the most unusual of backgrounds. Now this is a very strange union of the dancing arts and photography.
Omar Z Robles is a photographer dedicated to capturing the ephemeral moment. Having studied in L’École Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau, he discovered photography later on and fell in love with its ability to capture and immortalize the moment. He’s also fascinated with the human body, which he says is “bound by connectivity between reason and form”.
The street ballet initiative is a natural evolution of these notions. As he said to Mashable “I’m in love with how you can express and create all these beautiful lines and movements with just the human body.”
Guess that would be a lot harder without ballet dancers.
