The Results Of A Heavy Snowfall In Tokyo Are Pretty Much What You Would Expect Them To Be
When there’s so much snow it gets in the way of your everyday routines and ruins your travel plans, the only thing you can do (after you’re done with all the moaning and complaining of course) is to enjoy the winter wonderland.
On Monday, the city of Tokyo was paralyzed after it was hit with the heaviest snowfall in recent time. Tokyo resident Yukimura claims that it’s the first snow Tokyo has seen after four years. Back then, however, they were a lot less prepared. “This time everyone except me knew it was coming, apparently. Was a fun surprise for me though!” exclaimed the woman. Fun, or kind of annoying, the snow was ruling the city, and a lot of people got on board with it. They used this opportunity to go outside and participate in all sorts of winter activities, including building snowmen.
Traditionally, the snowmen built in Japan differ from the ones we’re used to seeing in the West. “The name for snowman, Yuki Daruma, doesn’t mean snowman, it means snow daruma,” explained Yakimura. “Daruma is from the Daruma doll, which is based on Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk who, according to the tales, had his arms and legs fall off during meditation. That’s why Japanese snowmen have only two layers.”
However, Japanese people aren’t the ones that are just gonna blindly follow the usual, traditional ways – they’re way too creative for that. That is why they are taking it to the next level and building Snowzillas and adorable snow puppies, which they later share online. The list below is a collection of the most impressive creations that, we think, are just too cool fro you to miss. Literally.
Scroll down to see the amazing snowmen and don’t be afraid to get creative next time a snowfall like that hits your town.
