Statue Of A Fearless Girl Now Challenges Wall Street’s Charging Bull

Published 8 years ago

New York City’s ‘Charging Bull,’ the symbol of Wall Street, capitalism, and country’s financial prosperity, has finally run into an obstacle. And surprisingly, it comes in a form of a little girl.

The bronze sculpture called the ‘Fearless Girl’ was installed on Tuesday morning, just ahead of International Women’s Day, as part of a joint effort between State Street Global Advisors (a $2.5 trillion asset manager) and city officials.

The little girl stands up not only to the bull but also to male dominance, especially in the business world, as she empowers women to do the same. A plaque fixed to the ground in front of her reads “know the power of women in leadership”.

The asset manager has also sent letters to 3500 companies asking them to add more women to their boards. They have vowed to vote against any that don’t comply, a hugely important step to be taken by such an influential corporation. (h/t: colossal)
