Wire Sculptures That Look Like Pencil Drawings
Now matter how hard you scribble, your scotches will never be 3D objects. However, David Oliveira makes wire sculptures that look like they leaped out from a sheet of paper. The thin, delicate sculptures depict both animals and people. One would think that this medium limit detail, but not in Olivier’s work: the monkeys and lions look as detailed as a notebook sketch would allow.
David Oliveira is a 35 year old Portuguese artist who lives is Lisbon. His “main interest lies in studying the visual perception applied to sculpture using the visual language of drawing.” For Oliveira, statues must obey nature’s laws: nothing is forever, everything occupies space (virtual or real), and everyone and everything is free.
