Ukrainian Artist Removes Make-Up From Dolls And Re-Paints Them To Look Incredibly Real
Facetune, Photoshop, Snapchat filters and all those unattainable beauty standards sometimes make you really think if there’s any natural beauty left in this world. And while makeup and clothes can often become a form of art and self-expression, sometimes it’s really relaxing to see people looking like their natural selves. This question of the unattainable beauty standards has also been raised considering dolls, and how their unrealistic looks might affect young girls and their idea of beauty.
Ukranian artist Olga Kamenetskaya is here to show how dolls would look like if they would be designed in a naturalistic manner. Olga removes all of the makeup from the doll’s face and adds new, realistic and proportional features. It’s safe to say that the result is often better than the original with dolls looking far more realistic than they used to. In an interview with Vogue Olga has stated that each doll has flaws just like normal people do, and she not only changes the features of these dolls but also transforms their face shapes and even adds new wigs.
“I don’t like when the new face of the doll is ideal and perfectly symmetrical, it makes it lifeless. I always deliberately leave some flaw that may not be noticeable to everyone, but [gives] the doll invisible charisma. Perhaps, this flawed beauty is the message that my dolls carry.”

Well, I have my doubts here as an artist, myself. One question I have is how those eyes were made. Looks like photoshop. Also, I noticed that some of the mouths are a different shape in 3 dimentions between the before and after shots. So that’s not possible. It’s possible to wipe off a mouth and repaint in a flat 2 dimentional way but you can’t change something that is preformed in 3 dimentions.
Well considering the same “before” doll is used 5 different times and all of the “after”s have different facial shapes, yeah. I’m guessing that they several of the pictures used as “before” examples weren’t actually the doll that was painted onto. As far as the eyes go, some of them do look iffy… but it’s also just odd the way she makes them so small in contrast to the rest of the face, and how shiny. It makes them seem really off and creepy. That may be entirely intentional though, what do I know?
