Artist Uses Everyday Objects To Create Funny And Interesting Illustrations (20 Pics)
Romain Joly, an artist known for superimposing real-life objects onto his drawings, creates imaginative and humorous illustrations. He started this creative journey in 2020, using the COVID lockdown as an opportunity to explore new artistic endeavors. In an interview with DeMilked, Joly shared that he made his first drawings during the lockdown. “I liked it and I still do it today,” he said.
The artist explained his creative process, stating, “To find inspiration, I observe a lot of what surrounds me. I also try to free up time to think, to let my mind wander, by going for a walk for example. Otherwise, I look a lot at what other artists are doing and I write down all my ideas in a notebook so I don’t forget them. Then I have to make the drawing and I make several attempts until I find something that I think is successful. I also try as much as possible to make beautiful pictures.”
Take a look at some of his outstanding works in the gallery below.

Talking more about his inspirations, Romain said, “I enjoy playing with shapes and concepts because it forces me to see the world from a different perspective. Moreover, I had good feedback at the beginning, people were smiling or even laughing when they saw my drawings. This pushed me to continue and to improve.”
“What I also like about this practice is the fact of taking a banal everyday object and making it “cool” with only a few strokes of the pencil. Kind of like MacGyver making amazing things out of nothing! (laughs) There’s an almost magical side to it I think,” he added.

The artist elaborated, “To make a drawing, you first have to find the idea. It is very random. Sometimes the idea comes to me at an unexpected moment (when I brush my teeth for example) and sometimes it’s more complicated, I don’t really know why. I finally understood that I had to deal with it!”
