Indian Artist Creates Mind-Blowing Quilled Typography With Colorful Paper Strips (20 Pics)
Sabeena Karnik, a Mumbai-based illustrator, creates incredible artwork using paper-quilling techniques. The artist intricately folds colorful paper strips and arranges them in various creative patterns for creating the beautiful typography she uses for logos and book covers.
Since she has been pursuing paper art professionally for over 10 years, Sabeena’s experience is brilliantly reflected in the precise geometrical patterns of her designs. “I was always fascinated by paper and its endless possibilities with the right skills and design application,” Sabina tells DeMilked, “It’s something so simple and inexpensive, but needs a lot of care with gentle hands.”

Describing her creative process, the artist elaborated, “My creative process starts with an idea in my head, which then goes on paper as a drawing. Once my drawing is done i move to the papers, by cutting, layering, making strips, shaping, curling and pasting them as per the design. Then its photographed in the studio with the right kind of lighting to bring out the 3D aspect of it along with shadows and highlights. This photograph is eventually used in editorials, magazine covers, billboards etc. depending on where its going to be published.”
“I absolutely love the entire process as it unfolds in front of me. My aim is to always create something which is happy, vibrant and makes the viewer feel wonder with each piece I create,” she added.
