Genius Woman Used Old Plastic Bottles As A Furniture Joining Material

Published 8 years ago

London-based designer Micaella Pedros is responsible for one of the coolest upcycling projects we’ve seen. It’s called “Joining Bottles” and in it, she used discarded plastic bottles as joining material to make furniture as strong as the conventional one.

“Both materials, wood and plastic bottles, are widely abundant in cities and other places. There are lying there as waste, waiting to be reclaimed by people,” Pedros writes. “Joining Bottles seeks to contribute to new beliefs based on what we, as individuals and communities, can do with what is available to us.”

The project is not only hypothetically “green” but as you’ll see from the video below, Pedros actually used the bottles collected on the streets. She then cuts them, wraps around the two wooden parts and applies heat to join them. So far she’s used this technique to create functional structures like stools and tables. And we can’t wait to see what else she (or you) will come up with.
