Since he began his artistic career, Mydogsighs has become ‘strapped into a well-deserved meteoric rise and is a key figure on the contemporary urban art movement’.

Mydogsighs further iterates that he chose painting on the streets as he finds it to be a rather democratic approach to working. The freedom and lack of curation he experiences with bringing his creativity to life allows him to interact with just about anyone. Additionally, he mentioned that he appreciated that there are only a few downsides to dealing with this form of artistry, legality being one of them.

Speaking further about the influences behind his powerful pieces, the artist claimed, “I jump between a few styles, my cans, my eyes, my quiet little voices characters and my naive Everyman character. Being able to jump between them keeps my practice fresh. More recently, my eyes have taken centre stage. They’re a perfect vehicle to tell stories hidden in the reflection”.

Elaborating on why he chose street art as a form of expression, Mydogsighs said, “I love the immediacy that comes with street art. I have an idea, then I find a spot and then I execute it. After that, it’s left to its own devices. It’s immediate and cathartic: it injects adrenaline and forces you as an artist to find the quickest way to get your message across”.

Regarding his creative process, Mydogsighs professed that he prefers a more ad hoc style. Though seemingly haphazard, he claims he takes his studio practice quite seriously, with daily sessions, but the output is often random. He states, “I’m a bit like a creative butterfly jumping from one half-finished project/artwork to the next. Eventually, something gets finished, although I’m unaware of what the next completed piece will be. This means my studio is stuffed full of nearly finished pieces and is rather chaotic. I usually work in oil or acrylic for small-scale work and spray paint for larger works/walls”.

If you’re interested in this street artist’s future plans, look out for his next pieces in the upcoming months because he mentioned that he has been moving in a different direction as of late. Speaking on his new project, Mydogsighs said, “Recently, I’ve moved into sculptural work. I like that feeling of not knowing where it’s going, but as I get older, I also struggle with patience. Nothing happens as quickly as my brain wants it to”. A relatable sentiment indeed, however, we look forward to seeing the outcome of this talented artist’s work in time to come nevertheless.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
