15 Mesmerizing Photos Of Moss-Draped Sculptures Captured By Kim Simonsson

Published 8 hours ago

In the hauntingly beautiful forests of Finland, where silence speaks and nature breathes magic into everything it touches, artist Kim Simonsson has crafted a world that feels straight out of a myth. His moss-draped ceramic sculptures—often children, animals, or surreal figures—look like they’ve wandered out of forgotten fairy tales and made the forest their home. Captured in photographs that amplify their eerie stillness and quiet power, these sculptures blur the line between fantasy and reality.

In an interview with DeMilked, he revealed, “Originally I wanted to become a painter but by chance, I got accepted to the ceramics and glass department in the design university in Helsinki.” He realized soon that sculpting was more natural for him than painting.

The artist further elaborated, “I worked with my hands and did almost every part of the process myself. The making part is almost as important for me as the final product. As humans we have developed the skills to use our hands for tens of thousands of years and to use that skill gives me fulfillment.”

Simonsson coats his ceramic figures with green flocking to mimic moss, giving them the look of forest spirits frozen in time. Here are some mesmerizing photos that capture the magic of his work.
