The incredible success of the comics does not seem to scare Ben at all – in an interview with Bored Panda, the artist said that he does not worry about each comic’s performance like he was worried before creating Pixie and Brutus. “I always want to do better,” says the artist.
Ben also has some surprises in store for you – he plans to create some plushies of the adorable duo: “Not sure when they’ll be ready, but I’m pretty excited to release them!”

Ever since the Pixie and Brutus comics took off, the artist devoted all of his time to creating illustrations, becoming a full time illustrator. “I get a lot less sunlight, haha! When I worked construction I was outside all the time, now I spend most the day sitting in my office in the dark with the windows covered so there’s no glare on my screen!” joked Ben. “Nah, just kidding!.. I mean, it’s true, but I don’t want to sound regretful of my career change, because I’m not. Illustration is what I love, and I’m incredibly lucky and grateful that I actually get paid to do it!”

They say opposites attract – and that’s certainly the case when it comes to Pixie and Brutus. While Pixie is an adorable and innocent little kitten, Brutus, on the other hand, is a war-weathered combat dog – a complete opposite of her. “He’s a very serious and intimidating military dog, but he has a soft spot for Pixie, and does what he can to protect her from the harsh realities of the world around them,” says the artist.

In past interviews, Ben has said that Pixie and Brutus were just another random comic idea he had while at work and that he was not planning on turning them into a series. “I just thought it would be a funny idea to introduce a cute little kitten to a big intimidating war dog. So I made the first Pixie and Brutus comic, and people liked it so much I just kept making them,” said the artist.

Ben currently spends about a day or two a week creating the series.
