Floating Miniature Cities Inside Glass Test Tubes
Small projects can be just as mind-blowing as those of a grander scale. That’s what we’ve learned from Rosa de Jong, a Dutch artist who created a series of miniature floating cities fixed inside the tiny glass test tubes.
For the macro sculpture series called Micro Matter, the artist uses all kinds of random materials – from the rocks from the Caribbean vacation to the sticks her pet cat brought from the yard. Later these scraps are repurposed into construction materials for buildings smaller than a thumbnail. And they have to be tiny, because when the piece is ready, it has to fit perfectly inside a glass test tube in order to create that sense of a floating landmass.
