8 Unusual Creations From Jennifer Allnutt’s Eyes On Stones Project

Published 7 hours ago

Jennifer Allnutt is a contemporary figurative artist born in Brisbane, Australia. She has been working on a unique and eye-catching project where she paints realistic renderings of Eyes on Stones. The hyperrealistic drawings show skin, lashes and lids that unflinchingly stare out at the world. Allnutt uses rocks of all sizes to create her images, and her drawings are fit proportionately to the space available. More often than not, her depictions are incomplete fragments of a face, while on smaller rocks she has drawn incomplete eyes.

In a little whimsical plot twist, the artist takes stones she finds in nature to use as her canvas and returns the illustrated rocks to their original positions in nature, as a surprise for passers-by. Her little swap quickly became an internet sensation and unwittingly sparked a community treasure hunt to find all her surreal creations. Allnutt was a finalist in the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize (2024) and was the winner of the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award in 2024. Her work has been exhibited around Australia, the US and New Zealand.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
