It Took This Artist 15 Years To Marry The Love Of His Life And He Illustrated It In A Heartfelt Comic
Jonathan Jui is an artist and the creator of an adorable series of parenting comics called “Baba’s field notes”. One of the reasons the artist creates his comics is so that one day his toddler can look back on them and remember all the things they experienced. In one of his recent comics, Jonathan decided to illustrate the 15-year long, movie-like story of how he met and married the love of his life.
“When I was 12, I met a girl named Tina. We were both in 8th grade and attending a school in Beijing, China,” explained the artist. “While it would be true to say “fifteen years later, I married my middle school sweetheart,” it would also be misleading because what love story is ever that simple?”
Believe it or not, Jonathan and Tina never dated the first fourteen years they’ve known each other. However, they managed to stay in touch through letters – five shoeboxes full of them. “I’ve never been one to believe in the idea of soulmates, but I have to say, waking up every morning next to my wife really makes me wonder whether I’m wrong,” says the artist. “So perhaps this isn’t a love story per se, but rather a story about Tina’s persistence and sheer awesomeness. Never give up on what you love… sometimes it just takes a while!”
