A Canopy Walkway In Cape Town Allows You To Walk Above The Trees

Walking under trees is nice and all, but it’s also very usual. That’s why Kirstenbosch Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway in Cape Town (South Africa) is so much fun: it snakes its way above the tree canopy! Now you can experience forests the way birds and star basketball players do. The path itself is gentle, gracefully designed and winds its way between and above the trees. The rounded shape was inspired by snake skeletons, and the serpentine shape gave it the unofficial name of “Boomslang” – tree snake.

The walkway is built in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, opened in 1913 and the first botanical garden dedicated to a country’s indigenous flora. The path itself is narrow and slender, and 130 meters long. It touches ground twice and can rise up to 12 meters. It’s not all just snaking around – it also has a few observation areas. And as you might understand, it’s not all above trees – part of it very naturally and unobtrusively descents between the trees, so that the visitors could admire the tree canopy up close.

And maybe flip off a bird or two.
