25 Exquisite Animal Sculptures That Look Straight Out Of A Fairytale

Published 1 day ago

Ellen Jewett’s polymer sculptures consist of a surreal blend of animals, flowers and trees. Her unusual combinations create a stunning visual that looks straight out of a mythical land.

The Canadian artist who has previously studied animal science and behaviour reflects her understanding of the subject in these fantastical fusions. The peculiarity of seeing ferns unfurling from a peacock tail of feathers or a Kitsune  (fox spirit) playing amidst the foliage and magpies is particularly impressive when you notice the intricate designs sculpted with various little details that add to its mystical nature.

While in the past, Jewett has explored working with the use of unnatural colours, as of late she has opted for a more vibrant palette. The artist explains that with the infusion of colour, she inadvertently discovered that her mind is more focused, effectively creating an easier entry point into a meditative state. The artist explained, “I don’t mean thinking of colour as an object in the world, with descriptives, history, and associations—no. Just pure colour. Shifting, oscillating, passively interacting with any sound present in the space. I have found it has the potential to shift the mental gears off the continuous narrative track and onto a visual one, surprisingly less subject to intrusive thoughts.”

Jewett’s incredibly charming and elegant interpretations of mythical animals command a steep price on the art market, and lately, she has been absorbed in bringing her dream-like creations to life in what she herself has described as an ‘elemental symphony’.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
