Artist Reimagines 20+ Disney Characters As Real People, And Elsa From Frozen Finally Looks Normal
Jirka Vinse Jonatan Väätäinen is a 28-year-old artist from Finland, who says he was inspired by Disney characters when growing up. There’s no question where he took inspiration for his latest project – creating portraits of classic Disney characters as real people. “Since I grew up with a lot of these characters, the sense of nostalgia made it such a fascinating and a fun personal project,” said Jirka about the project.
Jirka started the project back in 2011, just messing around in photoshop, thinking how Ursula from the Little Mermaid would look in real life. “I’ve been inspired by the idea of re-envisioning these characters that we all know and love, in a way I would imagine them to look like if they were ‘more real,’ while still staying somewhat true to their original designs,” said the artist.
Jirka also mentions that creating these real-life characters is a process of trial and error: “As all of [them] do not particularly have extremely distinct facial features, it is often more about getting a sense of their personality across.”
