As kids, we all wanted to live in a fairy tale (as adult, we all want to live in Hogwarts). Reddit dad radamshome made his daughter’s wish come true. This wonderful parent, who works in the video game industry, took 18 months to install a concrete and rebar tree in her room. It has a hole in the trunk for reading and you can climb the trunk to sit between the branches.
The project required radamshome to learn many skills, like welding. The tree trunk is made of a rebar frame covered with mesh and a thin layer of concrete. The bark is painted to look more realistic – well, as realistic as Tarzan-inspired visuals can be. Radamshome wrote that he cried three time before the project was finished!

“My daughter wanted a fairy tree in her room that she could sit inside and read books”
“I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project….”
It took 18 months and 350 hours to complete the project
Radamshome – an artist in the video game industry – began with a concept drawing and a scale model
He had to take private welding courses to make the tree
He spent 100-200 hours making the skeleton
The mesh “bark” took 50+ hours
A special mixture of cement was used for the tree trunk, while papier-mâché was used for the branches
Radamshome remembered his miniature painting skills from his teenage years, so he used the same techniques to paint the tree
He wove dimable Christmas lights into the branches to simulate stars
The fairy details and tree decorations come from a Michael’s art supply store
While it hosts an enthusiastic girl most of the time, the tree could hold up to three adults!
Got wisdom to pour?
