Turkish Architect Designs A Cliffside Hotel Hanging Almost 2,000 Ft Above A Norwegian Fjord

Published 5 years ago

Hayri Atak is an Istambul-based Turkish interior architect who founded the Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio back in 2017. The architect is known for his futuristic and innovative designs and recently he surprised us once again – this time by designing a concept for a breathtaking hotel hanging on the side of a Norwegian cliff.

The Cliff Concept Boutique Hotel would be situated atop the Preikestolen (or Pulpit rock) cliff located in Western Norway and rising 604 metres (1,982 ft) above the Lysefjorden fjord.

One of the most interesting features of the hotel would be the infinity pool hanging hundreds of meters above the fjord, suspended by two massive ropes. Just imagine the breathtaking view you’d see while floating on your inflatable mattress, sipping a piña colada!

“The pool was the one and only design element of the project,” Atak told INSIDER. “A pool hanging under the cliff by itself scared me.”

When asked why he chose this exact location, the architect said the Pulpit rock was one of the most exciting places to him through the years.

“One day a friend of mine sent me photos of ‘the rock’ she captured during her Norway trip. The photos were taken right behind the edge of the gigantic rock,” said Hayri.

“Even though I wasn’t there, I experienced the adrenaline of being on the edge. Then I dreamed of living on and beyond the edge. Simply, I just wanted to carry this experience beyond the edge.”

Even though the renderings of the hotel look incredible, the design is still a concept and there currently are no plans of building it.

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
