Celebrities Are Showing Off Temporary Skin “Implants” And People Are Freaking Out
A handful of Instagram celebrities – Kim Kardashian, designer Tan France, and models Chrissy Teigen and Andreja Pejic – recently shared some pictures of their disturbing body modifications. At first glance, they appear like subdermal implants but don’t worry – it’s just elaborate makeup.
These ‘implants’ were actually used to promote an upcoming theatrical experience called A. Human by Simon Huck, that opens on September 5 at 48 Mercer Street, New York City. Its aim is to ask questions about self-expression and blur the line between reality and fantasy using set design, prosthetics, and live actors.
In an interview with Vogue, Huck said they didn’t want to root any of our modifications on the idea of existing insecurities or discomforts: “A. Human is about the freedom to explore this world and live in this world in any way you choose.”
The whole theatrical experience will include visitors too – they will be able to swap their shoes for conch-like heels or have DNA-mirrored hearts created and implanted for them. Although the celebrities’ shocking pictures confused many people on the internet, Huck tries to keep a positive outlook: “When you think of the future, you think dark, dystopian—there are all these images that come to mind. I didn’t want to create a utopian world, but I definitely wanted to create a world that was optimistic or, at the bare minimum, neutral.”
