Photo Of A Roadrunner Blocked By The The U.S. Border Wins The Title Of Best Bird Photo Of 2021
Bird Photographer of the Year, or BPOTY for short, is an annual bird photography competition where photographers from all over the world submit their best avian images. This year, the organizers received over 22,000 submissions, and have just announced the winning photographs.
This year, the title of Bird Photographer of the Year 2021, as well as the Gold Award in the Birds in the Environment category, went to photographer Alejandro Prieto for his photograph titled “Blocked”. According to the organizers, the photo, showing a roadrunner standing in front of the border separating the U.S. and Mexico, tells “an important story of habitat fragmentation, and how structures such as the border wall can prevent wildlife from migrating and moving into other areas.”
