In an interview with Demilked, he shared how a difficult chapter in his life led him to find solace in the stars: “I went through a hard time with mental health along with a heart attack when I was 21, and sought out the peace of being under the night sky to help heal and sort out my life. I just fell in love with all the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of connecting with nature and the night sky. The process of creating art, traveling, and being outdoors helped heal and put my life on a better path!” This deep personal connection to the night sky is evident in Culver’s work.
His use of long-exposure photography and stacking programs—tools also employed by NASA—enables him to reveal celestial details invisible to the naked eye. “I use long exposure photography and stacking programs (the same ones NASA uses) along with some creative license in my editing to pull out the details of the night sky beyond what the eyes can see!” For Culver, astrophotography isn’t just about capturing stunning images—it’s about healing, exploration, and sharing the profound beauty of the cosmos.
