Alyson Gurney Crafts Charming Mini-Plushies Of Pets From Felted Wool
Pet owners often wish we could take our pets everywhere with us. It’s a sad moment when you have to leave your favourite being in the world at home and be parted even just for a few hours as you go about your daily activities. But imagine if you can just pop your furry friend in your pocket while on the go?
Alyson Gurney’s Little Felted Friends project allows people to have a semblance of just that comfort. She creates an exact replica of a mini-version of people’s beloved pets based on a photograph provided by the owners. The only catch is that the waitlist is currently over 3 months long. But if you have the patience to wait for the final outcome, it would be totally worth it as evidenced by the images in the gallery below.

Gurney who is an equestrian athlete, has an uncanny ability to merge dog and design in order to replicate not only the outward appearance of a pet but also the pet’s personality. Whether it’s a grumpy shih tzu, naughty poodle or wise pitbull, the mini-felted wool versions give off just the right energy, uncannily similar to the original subject.

Gurney, a Washington DC resident, adopted a six-week-old puppy from a Baltimore rescue centre in 2014. The rescued pupper was named Drift, because it was found along the side of a road lost in a snowdrift and eventually became the inspiration for Gurney’s Little Felted Friends business venture. The artist’s dabblings in fuzzy plushies were a resounding success, especially because Gurney was able to apply her graphic design degree with her artistry skills in needle felting. She has since created miniatures of beloved pets for famous clients such as Kelly Clarkson, Paris Hilton and Michael Strahan to name a few.
