19-Year-Old Illustrates Brutal Traces Of Sexual Assault In A Powerful NSFW Artwork

Published 8 years ago

19-year-old Emma Krenzer has brought awareness to sexual assault via an art project, which she made for the class at Wesleyan University in Nebraska.

A victim of sexual assault herself, Krenzer took a photo of a friend and printed out a life-sized copy of her. She then painted the image with different colors using her fingers, and each stroke corresponded a different touch from a different person. The paint strokes represented “touches from my mom, my dad, my siblings, my friends, my lovers, someone I told no.”

Krenzer chose to finish her powerful display after she returned from the Women’s March in Washington D.C., which trumped the inauguration of Donald Trump in terms of numbers. Given the sincerity of her message and the creative way in which she brought awareness to the severity of a sexual assault, it’s little wonder that when she shared a piece on Twitter it went completely viral with 125,000 shares and over 300,000 likes.

19-year-old student Emma Krenzer created this art piece to show the impact of sexual assault

“I made this project largely for myself to actually visualize the lasting impact that touch can have on an individual”

“I thought about what was true for myself, and also, what I perceived to be commonly true for people in general, when I mapped out these touches”

She made it by taking a picture of a friend before printing out a life-size copy and painting it with her fingers

She then made a legend to the “map” in order to show people what each of the colors represent

Emma now plans to make a larger series inspired by this version

She completed it on the same night that she returned from a Women’s March in Washington D.C

She recently shared it on Twitter and her artwork soon went viral

The powerful piece resonated with many people who were quick to share their thoughts
