Abandoned Church In Indonesian Jungle Looks Like A Massive Chicken

Published 9 years ago

The dove is a favored image of peace and Divine grace. The chicken – not so much, yet the Chicken Church still stands. Called “Gereja Ayam” and located in Magelang, Central Java, it stands in the middle of the jungle, attracting tourists and religious people, increasing tourism revenues in surrounding villages. The Chicken Church has been abandoned since 2000, so in addition to tourists and wedding parties, young people from surrounding villages come there to spray graffiti or have a secluded spot away from the adults.

Chicken Church was built by 67-year-old Daniel Alamsjah, who received a message from God to build a prayer house (that’s why he insists it’s not a church). It was supposed to look like a dove. Operating from 1990 to 2000, this place also worked to rehabilitate drug addicts and disabled children, and others. Now, the Chicken Church stands in a constant state of disrepair.

Make sure to visit it while it’s there!

Writes like a mad dervish, rolls to dodge responsibility, might have bitten the Moon once.

Got wisdom to pour?
