Artist Turns Old Dolls Into Creepy Yet Amazing Sculptures
When talking about career choices Freya Jobbins would have a story to tell. She started off as a police officer, but while at it, she didn’t find the job to be enjoyable enough, so back in 2004 Freya enrolled in printmaking and sculpture courses. This choice has opened new doors for her and eventually led to the project that got her famous.
The Australia-based artist likes to call herself a “plastic surgeon”. No, she’s not also a doctor, it actually comes from her unique sculpture project, where she repurposes old plastic dolls into human-looking busts and figures.
“I am interested in generating a range of responses to existing cultural objects, which have been placed out of context. The irony of my plastic works is that I take a material that was created to be touched, and I make it untouchable as an artwork.“
We’ll stick with unusual, it’s up to you to decide whether it’s creepy, awesome or both.
