Designer Asks Strangers To Draw A Bicycle From Memory And Then Turns It 3D
Have you ever been approached by a stranger on the street and asked to draw a men’s bike the way you remember it? If you have, chances are that you’ll see your handiwork rendered in realistic 3D in the gallery right below.
Almost 7 years ago Italian designer Gianluca Gimini started collecting drawings of bikes that he took from friends or complete strangers. Most of them depicted ordinary bikes, yet some stood out. “Soon I found out that when confronted with this odd request most people have a very hard time remembering exactly how a bike is made,” says the artist. “Some did get close, some actually nailed it perfectly, but most ended up drawing something that was pretty far off from a regular men’s bicycle.“
So he took the oddest of memories and gave them a 3D makeover, showcasing how a bike like that would look in reality. By now Gimini has a collection of 376 drawings from participants ranging from 3 to 88 years of age.
