Artist Leaves Funny Signs On Streets For People To Find
Street signs are to-the-point, giving you information that you don’t need to think about. Michael Pederson’s signs do just the opposite. He plays with everyday objects of urban environs, creating a bit of whimsy and wonder in everyday life. It’s not only about a cheeky take on street signs: the artist gives a dandelion art gallery velvet rope barrier or marking a spot as place of popular daydreams.
“I think we travel through urban space without really seeing it most of the time,” Pederson told CityLab. “I like the idea of interfering with the overly familiar background blur … Ideally with something a passerby might see out of the corner of an eye.” With a background in painting, music and film, Pederson began his urban antics in 2013. Not many of his works last more than a month, but he sees no problem with that.
