Iranian Women Post Photos Without Hijabs To Protest Mandatory Hijab Laws
The Iranian Islamic revolution happened in 1979. In 1983, a law was passed obliging women to wear the hijab headscarf. This doesn’t go well with everyone. Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist now living in the US, started “My Stealthy Freedom” Facebook page where Iranian women post pictures of their hair free in the wind. And this is no joking matter in Iran. Last year, the “morals police” arrested, detained or fined more than 3.6 million for hijab-related infractions.
And she has a lot of supporters: the Facebook group alone has over 800,000 followers.
