Anti-Ads: People Urge Companies To Stop Supporting Qatar 2022 World Cup
The Brazilian preparations to host the FIFA World cup certainly had their share of controversy. But all that pales in comparison to the accusations Qatar is facing for their work on the 2022 World Cup.
The most shocking rumors concern the horrible working conditions: the kafala system used in Gulf states has been abused to make workers virtually slaves to the employers. Most poignantly, Nepalese workers were not allowed to leave Qatar to attend funerals and visit relatives after the recent earthquake in Nepal. More than that, it is estimated that from 900 to 1,200 have already died during the construction, a number expected to grow to 4,000 before the end.
Some of the sponsors of the FIFA World Cup have recently responded to allegations against Qatar: Coca-Cola and Visa claim that the companies are troubled by the reports and continue to work with FIFA and Quatar to fix it. People on the internet, however, are fighting the way they can. One of them is making these anti-ads that spread the awareness of human rights abuses in Quatar.
