Masterful Paper Cutting Art By Emily Hogarth

Published 10 years ago

Paper craft bears the glue stained tears of our childhood. However, Emily Hogarth is one of the special people who mastered papercuts to a “t”. Her work is nothing short of amazing, making intricate pictures of animals and trees by cutting shapes out of paper. More than that, she does papercuts of writing. And not just cutting out print letters – Hogarth’s work sees entire poems written in cursive letters cut out from paper. Delicate paper strips form letters, making anyone who only did papercuts in elementary school shiver with fear. The fact that these papercuts remain intact is no less than magic.

Hogarth finished her masters from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008 and has cut paper in a professional capacity ever since. Her inspiration comes from the wonder of everyday life, and it works well with her motto of “making the everyday magical”. Hogarth likes the boldness and delicacy of papercuts – and the simplicity of preparation. “The best thing about papercutting is that it requires so little tools — all you need is a cutting mat, a piece of paper and a scalpel and some blades and off you go.”

I think she forgot to mention “years and years of honed skill and talent”
