Tape Street Art By Buff Diss
Street art is usually done with paint, to the great dismay of property owners everywhere. But Australian Buss Diss does all of his art with masking tape. This, of course, has certain limitations, what with tapes’ inability to be flexible and fluid. But Buff Diss works around these limitations, making beautiful and striking images that suffer no lack of detail. From large murals to tiny pieces of windows and planes of glass, this artist is extremely versatile. His signature pieces, however, seems to be disembodies hands.
Buff Diss has a global reach, with Hong Kong being one of his most recent stops. He also enjoys collaborating with other artists, and has been, in general a very prolific artist in the past decade. However, the masking tape wasn’t his first choice. “Tape became my main medium in 2005 by accident,” Buff Diss says. “I’d meant to use it as a tool, but then I saw the lines of tape were drawings on their own—it saved a lot of time.”
Now if more street artists (instead of taggers) were that active…
