Cheap Gear, Amazing Photos: Photographer Uses Her Old Canon To Take Amazing Landscape Shots
While photography is largely dependent on talent, a good camera also helps. For Meagan V. Blazier, a point-and-shoot is enough. A single mom and a real estate agent, she uses her Canon PowerShot SX40HS to take stunning landscape pictures. The “imaginescapes,” as she calls, them surprise many people who inquire about her camera – after all, this 2011 Canon is both simple and cheap. Blazier also has a good eye for subject material – she shoots objects that are often overlooked, finding a special beauty in old, decaying buildings.
The first time Blazier picked up a camera was to document her son’s childhood. She soon found that photography is a great release from the stresses of real estate and single motherhood. Blazier wanted to give new life to old buildings, and quickly developed a new style: dark, moody, atmospheric and mysterious, it has netted her three Editor’s Choice awards on 500px, along with a large internet following
Not bad, considering the gear.

“This photo, “Countryside” is special to me because this is when I really grew as an artist. I familiarized myself with Lightroom, learned how to use each tool, and realized the editing power that was available. This was my very first attempt at using those tools to creating depth in an image and make the image just as compelling as someone who used more expensive gear. This image was edited completely in Lightroom with very basic edits”
“But I don’t use expensive gear to bring my vision to life. All of my photos are captured with a Canon PowerShot SX40HS (jpg) — a model I’m not even sure Canon still makes.”
Got wisdom to pour?
Cool same sunset in most pics. I could do that too!
And those are created in Lightroom and Photoshop and not with the cheap camera. The framing and editing are good but it’s not the camera.
Confirmed Photoshop Lightroom 5 on Macintosh. Elements 1.1

Thanks for the great images, but this is clearly a blatent Canon Ad for a camera model they still make.
Before I buy any of their crap, I will purchase Olympus, Nikon, Minolta gear, if I was a professional Photographer. Canon DSLRs are not priced cheaper than the better brands in many cases.
