Las Muertas: Photographer Creates Colourful Tribute To Day Of The Dead
The Dia De Los Muertos (Day of The Dead) is somewhat colourful for such a sombre day. To celebrate the holiday, photographer Tim Tadder made the Las Muertas series. Each of the models represent one season: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. The make-up is representative of the traditional art of the Dia De Los Muertos. The colours are very apropos, too, since it‘s probably the most colourful celebration of the dead.
Tim Tadder is a very versatile photographer, doing portrait photography as well as ads. However, he was not alone in this endeavour. His work was inspired by an LA artist named Krisztianna, who does traditional Day of the Dead dolls. She was the one who made the season sets, as well as painting the models. The vintage costumes were provided Julia Reeser. All this is set against the background stormy day and a burnt plain: the combination of colour, destruction and foreboding storm makes a truly surreal tribute to the traditions of the Dia De Los Muertos holiday.
This is one celebration that can definitely give Halloween run for its money.
