Michelle Robinson Intricately Weaves Colorful Geometric Wall Decor Using Fibre Art
Sydney-based artist Michelle Robinson has been exploring the centuries-old art of passementerie to create beautiful wall decor. The artist, who has over twenty years of experience in soft furnishings and upholstery, began weaving geometric wall hangings from textured fibres over the last couple of years.
The artist discovered that spinning fibre significantly helped her reduce her over-thinking patterns. The act of spinning, Robinson has claimed, helped put her in an unexpected meditative state that is in stark contrast to the complex pre-planning involved in passementerie. Lately, the Australian artist has been experimenting with different fibres, yarn deniers, and colour palettes. Her handspun crafts are vibrant designs that are a unique addition to any home. Her explorations into ‘colour therapy’ as she fondly calls it have led her to braid, weave and spin her way into creating intricate wall hangings that puff, curve and meander in vivid detail.
