The Protectors Of Iceland: Fantasy Creatures Inspired by Icelandic Myths

Published 10 years ago

Norse sagas and metal music go together like cheese and pizza. Asgeir Jon Asgeirsson’s paintings, done as metal album illustrations for Icelandic metal band Skálmöld’s “Með Vættum,” are perfect proof.

Asgeir claims inspiration from the Icelandic Heimskringla saga and lyrics written by Snæbjörn Ragnarsson. While I get all giddy writing about all this Norse stuff, I’m also impressed by the paintings. Dragons are a little overplayed/overused in popculture these days, but the other images are impressive and mythical.

I, for one, would never have imagined a giant bull being so epic and mythical. Just look at the magnificent beast!
