Japanese Artist Turns Wood Into Twelve-Faced Girl And Other Weird Sculptures
Japanese sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki has shared a series of photos that give us an unexpected look into the creative process behind his wonderfully bizarre wooden sculptures. We get to see his sculpture’s journey from a giant log to a girl with 12 faces that looks like it might be the Hindu goddess of anime, since, much like in Japanese cartoons, all the faces look the same.
This isn’t the first multifaced rodeo for Yoshitoshi Kanemaki – quite a few of his previous works have a plethora of noses or other surreal deformations. Others depict strange metamorphoses or reflecting and repeating physical features.
Got wisdom to pour?
That last image reminds me of a quote from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, “If you have information worth
hearing, then I am grateful for it. If you’re gonna crack jokes, then
I’m gonna pull out your ribcage and wear it as a hat.”
