Ocean-Inspired Glassblowing Sculptures By Shayna Leib

Published 10 years ago

American glass artist Shayna Leib creates impressive works that look like sea creatures’ tentacles and cilia rather than glass. And it is no coincidence that her works are so inspired by the sea, as Leib is also a passionate diver.

Growing up on the Central Coast of California connected me to the sea, which has been the greatest influence on my work,” writes Leib, who also became a diver and underwater photographer a few years ago. “The ocean has always been a source of inspiration and mystery to me, and it is a lifelong goal of mine to dive all of the earth’s seas.

Even though she also works with metal, ceramic, stone, and fabric, glass remains her professional art material: “I prefer to use glass not for its mimetic qualities to capture the look of other materials, but for it’s ability to express flow, freeze a moment in time, and manipulate optics.
