Designer Creates Shelves With Mysterious Glowing Inlaid Resin
Industrial designer, jeweller and blogger Mat Brown had an amazing idea for how to put some style into simple wooden shelves – he inlaid them with unearthly blue glowing resin.
First, he took a long piece of chestnut with deep cracks and knotholes begging to be filled with some cool material. Then he sealed off the holes and cracks from the bottom with aluminium plumber’s tape. He mixed up the resin with the mysterious (unnamed) glowing pigment, poured the mixture into the cracks and waited for almost a week for the resin to dry and harden (the duration depends on the wood and the weather conditions). The final touches included peeling off the tape, cleaning up and sanding the shelves, and applying eight or nine thin coats of oil. The hard work surely paid off and the result is stunning!

Love this effect. Used this material a lot when I was going graphics! its a smart material (resin) that takes the surrounding light and emits it back out. Very Clever twist on the titanium tables that where posted not that long ago.
