Currently, more than half of the population lives in urban areas. In the U.S., for instance, the numbers are even higher. It is estimated that over 80% of the U.S. population lives in cities. It’s predicted that by 2050, nearly 7 out of 10 people will reside in urban areas.
Urbanization generally poses more threats than overall good, including elevated levels of noise and air pollution, and rapid deforestation. There’s a dedicated subreddit that shares all the downsides of modern development and it’s called ‘Urban Hell‘.
