Christian Spencer is an Australian artist and photographer who has been living in Rio de Janeiro since 2001. The artist says that throughout the years, Brazil’s nature and rich biodiversity have greatly influenced his artistic style, and ever since moving the country, he produced many amazing pieces of art that have been exhibited all over the world.
One day Christian noticed that the Jacobin hummingbirds flying around his verandah produced an interesting rainbow effect when the sun struck their wings at a certain angle. He decided to take some pictures and eventually turned them into a series he titled Winged Prism.

This wasn’t the artist’s first attempt at capturing these majestic little birds. Back in 2011, Christian released a film titled The Dance of Time where he captured the movement of hummingbirds’ wings. It ended up receiving 10 international awards and three best film honors but the project wasn’t over yet. A few years later, he decided to capture this unique phenomenon with his camera – and the results turned out absolutely stunning.
