Greta Thunberg Delivers A Powerful Speech At The UN Climate Summit And Gives Trump A Death Stare
If you don’t know who Greta Thunberg is yet, she’s a 16-year-old Climate activist from Sweden whose actions of raising awareness of global warming has made her known around the world. On Monday, the young activist gave a powerful speech at the United Nations Climate Summit in New York and it – and her death stare directed at Trump – quickly went viral.
In her speech, Greta pointed out that the fact that climate change is real and happening has been acknowledged for over 30 years. Yet during this time, little to nothing has been done to prevent it. The activist accused the world leaders of being “not mature enough” to tell the truth and said that even though they’re failing us, young people are becoming aware of their betrayal.

US President Donald Trump responded to Greta’s speech with a pretty ignorant comment: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”. This even prompted the activist to briefly change her Twitter bio to Trump’s quote.
Greta’s story began when started the global School Strike movement, organizing weekly Friday school strikes back in Sweden. Her actions received a lot of attention in the following months and eventually, the girl was invited to give a speech at the UN Climate Summit in New York. It was there that she crossed paths with Donald Trump, who was there on a meeting on religious freedom. Greta had little hope in convincing the president about the importance of the climate crisis. “I say ‘listen to the science’ and he obviously does not do that. If no-one has been able to convince him about the climate crisis and the urgency, why would I be able to?” Greta told The Guardian.
