Instead Of Cancelling The Wedding, This Widowed Bride Took Photos With Her Groom
Losing a loved one can be a devastating experience. Jessica Padgett and Kendall Murphy were supposed to get married on the 29th of September, 2018. Sadly, things suddenly turned upside down when Kendall was killed in an accident in 2017. But when the date of the wedding came, Jessica decided not to cancel.
In an interview with BBC, the bride explained why she didn’t cancel the wedding: “I wanted to still celebrate our wedding day, even though he wasn’t physically there with me. I wanted memories of the day that we were supposed to have in my dress.” The couple had already booked photographer Mandi Knepp before and upon request of Padgett’s mother-in-law, she came to do the wedding photo shoot.
“I was a train wreck. All these thoughts came in my head – ‘I’m standing beside no-one, my groom is not here with me’,” said Jessica. But despite the initial sadness, the bride and guests shared happy moments too: “There were some silly stories told, which I’m glad about. And the mosquitoes were terrible, I was bit up! That’s another thing we were laughing at.” Jessica said the photo shoot was part of the healing process and gave her strength.
“It’s hard when you miss someone. But, you know, if you miss them you were BLESSED. It means you had someone special in your life, someone worth missing,” wrote the photographer under the couple’s wedding album. See the pictures for yourself in the gallery below.
