This Simple Comic Perfectly Explains Privilege
Privilege is not a simple concept, but as Auckland-based illustrator Toby Morris proves, it can be explained perfectly even in a short thought-provoking comic strip.
When we say privileged, we’re not necessarily talking about the people who were born into royalty so. We simply mean those folks who have perhaps had a helping hand or two in life while others weren’t afforded such assistance. You can’t blame people for being given opportunities, but it’s always good to consider those who weren’t. But let this comic better explain just what we mean. It’s a short story called “On A Plate” and impressively more than 200,000 people on social networks have agreed with the message and “liked” it.

this is total bullshit. there’s way too many variables. I came from a low income family, that doesn’t mean you can’t be successful as “privileged kids” (kids who had parents who have better jobs and more involved with their kids are somehow looked down on all the sudden). In fact, I find it the opposite. It makes you appreciate and want it that much more. Employers notice this.
I fear the privilege analysis may have the opposite of the intended effect. Allow me to explain how the audience might respond to this cartoon:
* Initially, I feel accused by it, even though it is actually about people like me.
* When I realize it’s about people in my social class, I feel patronized by it.
* So people will eitehr feel attacked or patronized by it. Nobody is going to feel inspired or empowered by it, nobody is going to go away from that experience feeling good about themselves.
