Barber Decorates Shop’s Floor With 70,000 Pennies, And It’s Worth Every Penny
After getting an estimate of a 1000 British Pounds for the new floor, Rich Holtham, the owner of BS4 Barbers shop in Dudley, UK, has decided to do it himself. And not only did he do it cheaper, he also found a use for those 70,000 pennies lying around.
“We wanted a new floor but the cost of getting it done was expensive and we wanted to do something a bit more unusual, so we looked at a few different ideas online,” Rich told Daily Mail. What started as a spontaneous idea “seemed to take forever [to finish],” said Rich, who, with the help of his team, actually spent a full week laying the pennies (and that’s not counting the gap grouting that was done after).
“We had to take our own cash to the bank and we had to take hundreds of pennies out a day,” explained the owner of 4 barber shops across the UK. “In the end, we took out £700 worth of pennies. That’s 70,000 coins.”
The new floor worked out as a great advertisement as well: “We have had a lot of interest in the floor, to be fair. Passers-by keep coming into the shop to take a few photos. We have gained a lot of business from it.”
