15 Random Shadows Turned Into Awesome Doodles By Vincent Bal
Vincent Bal is a Belgian filmmaker who’s already made four feature films and a bunch of commercials. Now you might be thinking that you came here to see shadow illustrations, not movies. And for that, the same intro works just fine, because to relax from the stress of movie making, Vincent has found a new creative outlet – shadow doodles.
“While I was working on a new script last April, I noticed how my teacup made a nice shadow on a piece of paper. I drew some lines on it and suddenly the shadow was an elephant,” writes Bal. “I took a pic with my phone and posted it on Facebook. Before I knew it, this pic was shared and liked as never before. I was surprised how much people liked it. Since that day I’ve been posting a doodle a day.“
As opposed to movie making, these doodles shared on social media give Vincent an immediate feedback, which is so sorely missed on multiple-year-long projects he’s used to: “I have an idea, make it, and find an audience, all in less than half an hour. I love the freedom. There are no restrictions. I can just watch a shadow and see if I recognize a shape.” And frankly, these seem like a gust of fresh air to us too.
