This Is What Norway’s New Bills Will Look Like In 2017
Believe it or not, these are real Norwegian banknotes! Or at least what they will look like when issued in 2017.
According to Norges Bank, the new bill features two separate design series from two outstanding proposals submitted to the national competition held in spring 2014. The front side features a series called “Norwegian Living Space” by The Metric System and Terje Tønnessen, while the highly unusual backside will feature a pixelated design series called ”Ripple Effects” by Enzo Finger. Both of the series focus on one of Norway’s most important national motifs – the sea.
The real new bill issues, however, may look a bit different from the designs presented here, as they have yet to incorporate public and machine-readable security elements into them. You can see the new series in the “Norway’s New Banknote Series: The Sea” exhibition in the Grafill visual design organization’s exhibition space in Oslo, Rosenkrantz gate 21, from 7 to 26 October.

Got wisdom to pour?
This is incorrect – the pixelated image is designed by Snøhetta. Enzo Finger won the design competition, but Norges Bank overturned the jury’s decision and his designs are not being used on the new notes.
