Frozen in a Bubble: Photographs of Soap Bubbles Freezing at -9 °C by Angela Kelly

Published 11 years ago

As an artist, you get many strange ideas to cross your mind everyday. Blowing bubbles outside at minus 9-12 degrees Celsius? Why not! Knowing the process couldn’t disappoint, one beautiful winter morning Washington-based photographer Angela Kelly took her son outside to blow bubbles and shoot some amazing pictures, which she later titled as Frozen in a Bubble.

“We blew the bubbles across the top of our frozen patio table and also upon the hood of my car and then we watched in awe as each individual bubble froze with their own unique patterns,” said Kelly to KOMO News.

The means Kelly used for making bubbles were very simple: dish soap, karo syrup and water. Frosty surfaces like grass, the hood of a car and a table became handy tools in both getting the bubbles to freeze and making subtle background. Additionally, sunrise perfectly served for creating the great lighting. Combining all of these and spending some time in frigid temperatures, the photographer managed to capture unique and different patterns of each fragile bubble.
